Today's book is Biblical fiction:

*About the Author*

Angela admits to being fascinated by animals, medicine, psychology, unexplained phenomena, and “just about everything” except sports. Books, she says, have always shaped her life— in the fifth grade she learned how to flirt from reading Gone with the Wind.
Her books have won the coveted Christy Award, several Angel Awards from Excellence in Media, and the Gold and Silver Medallions from Foreword Magazine’s Book of the Year Award. In 2007, her novel The Note was featured as a Christmas movie on the Hallmark channel. Romantic Times Book Club presented her with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.
Also in 2006, Angela completed her Master of Biblical Studies in Theology degree. She completed her doctorate in 2008 and was accepted into a Th.D. program in 2009. When she’s not home reading or writing, Angie often travels to teach writing workshops at schools and writers’ conferences. And to talk about her dogs, of course.  She is also an avid photographer, using her photos to help find homes for her local SPCA’s shelter animals.

*Book Description*

As a young girl living with her cousin Mordecai,  Hadassah has been fascinated by the queen ever since a chance encounter--an embarrassing one at that--at the bazaar. Now, just barely a young woman the tremendous and surprising task of becoming the King's wife weighs heavily on her slender shoulders. Longing for beauty in her life, Esther has gotten what she's dreamed for...now she needs to figure out what to do with the gift she's been given. Deciding against telling her new husband of her faith, she sees nothing wrong with not exposing her beliefs. When Esther learns of the plans for the dear Jewish people she loves and is a part of, she knows she has no other choice but to speak up to the man who has chosen her. Will she save her people? Or will she find herself in danger as well?

*What I liked*

I loved that this book was so well referenced!! Many people, including me, are worried about historical and Biblical accuracy and Angela achieves that in Esther. While Hadassah was very conceited and very "pro-self" in the beginning of the book as a young girl but I loved the change seen throughout the story as she transformed into a queen there to serve her people. I also loved that she included two different points of view, one from Hadassah, the other from Harbonah, the kings eunuch servant. <(Fictional)

*What I didn't like*

Honestly, if I said I didn't like something of Esther, that would be a moot point because Angela can't change a non-fictional, Biblical character (nor would I want her too!) and I probably wouldn't change her anyways. One thing I will mention is that some Hebrew words were not translated, probably to keep respect and to be accurate but other then that, read this book!

*My Rating*

My rating for Esther: Royal Beauty is...

5 stars!!

*My overall opinion*

Esther: Royal Beauty by Angela Hunt is a wonderfully, historically and Biblically accurate depiction of Esther, a brave beautiful queen not without her own struggles and flaws. Angela painted an interesting and unique story in the first person point of view, which I would imagine is very hard to do for a non-fictional character. I will be reading her future stories on Bathsheba and Delilah as well!
