Litfuse Review- A Son's Vow by Shelley Shepard Gray

post signatureWow! Can y'all believe that it's February? I can't! Every time I look outside and see robins in the yard or daffodils poking up through the mulch and look at the calendar, all I can do is shake my head. Even after 4 years of Virginia weather, it still seems foreign sometimes!

Thankfully, any weather is "reading weather", so I was able to finish this gem of a book by Shelley Shepard Gray!

 *Summary*

In the first book of New York Times bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray’s new Charmed Amish Life series, a young man and woman must heal their families—and themselves—after a terrible tragedy, but when their friendship gives way to deeper feelings, can their newfound love survive against the odds?

Three months ago, everything changed for Darla Kurtz and her family. Darla’s father was responsible for a terrible fire at Charm’s lumber mill that killed five Amish men. Though her father lost his life, too, the town of Charm hasn’t looked at her family the same since. Now her brother’s anger at the town is spilling over onto Darla, and she has the bruises to prove it. The accident already cost five lives, but if something doesn’t change soon, Darla fears it will cost her—and her family—even more.
Suddenly, Lukas Kinsinger, the head of his father’s lumber mill who is responsible for taking care of his three siblings, feels more overwhelmed than ever. He has also never felt more alone—especially with the new tension between him and Darla, who was his close friend before the accident changed everything. But when he learns of her troubles at home, Lukas knows he can’t simply stand by and watch. Someone has to help her before another tragedy occurs—and that someone is him.
As Lukas and Darla attempt to repair their families, they discover something deeper than friendship growing between them. But will the pain of the past overcome any chance of future happiness?

     *My Thoughts*

This book was fabulous! I loved Shelley's Brides of Pinecraft Series, and in my oppinion, this series is going to be even better!

Every time Darla had to defend herself and her family to the town, I physically ached. I understand on a very miniscule level what it is like to be rejected, but nothing like that. However, Shelley has a way of showing everyone elses true feelings so as not to make enemies out of the other characters, but eventually, friends.

Her writing is superb! I could see the tension and attraction on the part of Lukas and Darla but it didn't overtake the line of forgiveness and grace in the story.

This was so much more then a romance story. Shelley really did enrapture me with the story each person had and the heartache and healing they all shared. A beautiful story, inside and out, this series will be another great success if Shelley continues this trend!
