Litfuse Review- The Hearts We Mend by Kathryn Springer

               *Summary*

For young widow Evie Bennett, moving forward will mean deciding what to leave behind . . . and what to keep.

Widowed at the age of twenty-five when her firefighter husband was killed in the line of duty, Evie Bennett has spent the last thirteen years raising their son, Cody, in the close-knit community of Banister Falls. As the women’s ministry director of her church, Evie encourages women to boldly pursue God’s plan for their future . . . while she is content with her memories of the past. But Evie’s well-ordered life begins to change when she meets Jack Vale.

As Evie gets drawn into Jack’s world—a world that isn’t as safe and predictable as the one she’s worked so hard to create—he challenges her to open her eyes to the problems in the community . . . but will Evie open her heart to love again?

Because even though Jack isn’t anything like her late husband, he just might be everything she needs.

             *My Thoughts*

I'm a romance girl. I'm 16 years old and constantly looking for those "sappy", adorable movies and books where the heroine always gets her man and they live happily ever after and face life together. This book...well...it wasn't exactly the flowery love story I dream about. But it was still fantastic. Because even though it wasn't flowery, it was heartwarming and real. Kathryn didn't cover up the hard, real life stuff. She didn't pretend her characters were living in a fairytale. They faced challenges. They made me cry. They made me laugh in relief. They made me FEEL. And that, reader friends, is something to treasure when experienced, because it means that author has done their work gallantly. I'm proud to say, this was one of those books. I can't wait to see what Kathryn does next!

             *My overall thoughts*

If you get tired of reading fiction filled with fairytales and sunny strawberry patches, skipping all the reality, pick this one up! Plenty of romance, but with a perfect message of strength, healing, and redemption through Christ.
