Revell Review- The Way of the Brave by Susan May Warren

Happy New Year everyone! Wow. Can you believe that another year has gone by already? 2020. That is going to take some getting used to! Each year around this time, my family takes a trip to NY to celebrate with family. After quite a long spell missing reading terribly, I finally was able to devour some (five!) great books. Some of them I had been anxiously waiting for 6 months or more to add to my bookcase!

*Summary*
Former pararescue jumper Orion Starr is haunted by the memory of a rescue gone wrong. He may be living alone in Alaska now, but the pain of his failure--and his injuries--has followed him there from Afghanistan. He has no desire to join Hamilton Jones's elite rescue team, but he also can't shirk his duty when the call comes in to rescue three lost climbers on Denali.

Former CIA profiler and psychiatrist Jenny Calhoun's yearly extreme challenge with her best friends is her only escape from the guilt that has sunk its claws into her. As a consultant during a top-secret mission to root out the Taliban, she green-lighted an operation that ended in ambush and lives lost. When her cathartic climb on Denali turns deadly, she'll be forced to trust her life and the lives of her friends to the most dangerous of heroes--the man she nearly killed.

Her skills and his experience are exactly what's needed to prevent another tragedy--but in order to truly set Orion free from his painful past, Jenny will have to reveal hers. They'll have to put their wounds behind them to survive, but at what cost?

Leap into action with this high-octane, breakneck new series from bestselling author Susan May Warren.

                         *My Thoughts*
Deep, heart wrenching, & real, The way of the Brave leaves you holding your breath from the very first page.

Adventure and intrigue began in chapter one and I quickly found myself falling in love with a new cast of Warren characters. The fun camaraderie between teammates, anger and hurt, joy and longing made each page come alive as the new story unfolded. I started at the beginning of an eight hour road trip and I found myself turning page after page until I reached the end. I finished in under five hours! As usual, the writing is excellent and packed with emotion, but the suspense is what really drew me in and had me holding my breath, You can tell that Susan spent a great deal of time researching climbing, Alaska, and Navy SEALS. It all came together perfectly and I was on the edge of my seat with all the adrenaline.

Orion! Oh my goodness, Orion. Still a hero to his core, his vulnerability and heart of gold made him a sweet, swoon worthy character. Jenny's feeling that she needed to "master the mountain" to prove her strength made her relate-able and endearing. The mystery of Jacie and Aria/Kia was both heartwarming and heartbreaking and I can't wait for the rest of the series! I was easily as wrapped up in Jake's story as the Orion & Jenny's and I can hardly wait to read it again.

Thrilling from beginning to end, I can't wait for this new Warren series to unfold!
