Revell Review- The Land Beneath Us by Sarah Sundin

Happy Monday! Hot off the press and fresh out of my mailbox, one of my very favorite authors is coming to us today...Sarah Sundin!

*Summary*

In 1943, Private Clay Paxton trains hard with the U.S. Army Rangers at Camp Forrest, Tennessee, determined to do his best in the upcoming Allied invasion of France. With his future stolen by his brothers' betrayal, Clay has only one thing to live for—fulfilling the recurring dream of his death.

Leah Jones works as a librarian at Camp Forrest, longing to rise above her orphanage upbringing and belong to the community, even as she uses her spare time to search for her real family—the baby sisters she was separated from so long ago.

After Clay saves Leah's life from a brutal attack, he saves her virtue with a marriage of convenience. When he ships out to train in England for D-Day, their letters bind them together over the distance. But can a love strong enough to overcome death grow between them before Clay's recurring dream comes true?

                         *My Thoughts*
Unmatched with her love and skill for storytelling in the WWll era, Sarah Sundin has done it again with her outstanding research and ability to capture the hearts and minds of lovers of historical fiction.

Her characters really help all of her research come to life. A tangible reminder of those who have come before us and all their many sacrifices, I have loved getting to know the Paxton brothers and the ladies that have supported them.

Clay and his life brought an interesting dimension to the story, both as someone who was often rejected for his looks and as someone that tried to do the right thing by taking matters into his own hands. There were a few times where I would feel like saying "You don't know that is your purpose! Stop trying to decide what God will do, let Him work with you!" Then it would hit me...we all can be like that. His fight for forgiveness was just another reminder of the struggles we all have and it was so moving to see his spiritual maturity grow throughout the book.

Leah was a lonely soul for a long time and Clay was a great example of how God knows exactly what we need, and how good can turn any situation into good. We really saw her grow as a person and as a child of God as we got towards the end of the book. Her relationship was slow and sweet but in a way that wasn't at all unrealistic.

I feel like I have learned so much about our nation's history in WWll through Sarah's stories. I always know I can count on her to be accurate in the heritage she shares with her readers and I always walk away wanting to know more.

The Land Beneath Us is packed with heart and filled from cover to cover with the message of hope and forgiveness. What a beautiful story!  A stunning tale of reconciliation and hope for the future, it's a fitting ending to the Sunrise at Normandy series. I can't wait to see what Sarah has in store for us next! I guarantee it will end up on my bookshelves.
