Revell Review- Out of the Embers by Amanda Cabot

Wow...what a busy, crazy, scary week it has been! Covid-19 is just starting to affect our little town of Appomattox and it’s a little surreal. These books really are helping me cope with the crazy!

*Summary*

Ten years after her parents were killed, Evelyn Radcliffe is once more homeless. The orphanage that was her refuge and later her workplace has burned to the ground, and only she and a young orphan girl have escaped. Convinced this must be related to her parents' murders, Evelyn flees with the girl to Mesquite Springs in the Texas Hill Country and finds refuge in the home of Wyatt Clark, a talented horse rancher whose plans don't include a family of his own.

At first, Evelyn is a distraction. But when it becomes clear that trouble has followed her to Mesquite Springs, she becomes a full-blown disruption. Can Wyatt keep her safe from the man who wants her dead? And will his own plans become collateral damage?

Suspenseful and sweetly romantic, Out of the Embers is the first in a new series that invites you to the Texas Hill Country in the 1850s, when the West was wild, the men were noble, and the women were strong.

                          *My Thoughts*
A sweet, historically set, Texas romance emerges out of the embers with this new Cabot series!

Out of the Embers proves a refreshing read with engaging characters. The perfect story to keep you entertained or to read on the beach, the plot line was unique. Uncommon for many historical novels, this book keeps you on the edge of your seat with a thread of the suspense that is both subtle and surprising.

Evelyn, though she is a very strong character, also shows a lot of fear throughout the story that we can all relate to. We all have situations out of our control that scare us, and Evelyn's story was a tangible, but not pushy reminder, that God is in control.

Wyatt's commitment to his family showed his heart and his relationship with Evelyn, while fast, was sweet and steady.

Polly was the perfect addition to add dimension and a bit of hilarity to the story.

Book one of this new series and a fun, gentle read, perfect for unexpected days off or a vacation read. I'm excited for book 2!
