Bethany House Review- A Love Like Ours by Becky Wade

Good morning everyone!! Wow, what a busy day! One of my dearest friends in the world, Jeremy, is graduating today  and I suspect much of today will be spent preparing V.B.S crafts. First though, one of my very favorite authors is here with her new book: Becky Wade!!

*Summary*

Former Marine Jake Porter has far deeper scars than the one that marks his face. He struggles with symptoms of PTSD, lives a solitary life, and avoids relationships.

When Lyndie James, Jake's childhood best friend, lands back in Holley, Texas, Jake cautiously hires her to exercise his Thoroughbreds. Lyndie is tender-hearted, fiercely determined, and afraid of nothing, just like she was as a child. Jake pairs her with Silver Leaf, a horse full of promise but lacking in results, hoping she can solve the mystery of the stallion's reluctance to run.

Though Jake and Lyndie have grown into very different adults, the bond that existed during their childhood still ties them together. Against Jake's will, Lyndie's sparkling, optimistic personality begins to tear down the walls he's built around his heart. A glimmer of the hope he'd thought he'd lost returns, but fears and regrets still plague him. Will Jake ever be able to love Lyndie like she deserves, or is his heart too shattered to mend?

*My Thoughts*

This was exactly my kind of story!! I love the stories between best friends and this....wow!! You'd think it'd be cliche but no...Becky really did put a new spin on the clasic "friends fall in love" story!

Such a beautiful cover!! When I read the story about what happened to the poor guy shown on the cover...well, you need to ask Becky. But still. I.LOVE.THE.COVER. It is possible to have a crush on a cover isn't it?

I loved the development of Lyndie & Jake. They're not "surface level" characters like some romance books tend to have ESPECIALLY when it comes to friend related love stories. They had real feelings and struggles developed over time and strengthened with a real relationship with God. Not in a "God is great, the end" sort of way nor is He mentioned every two sentences to get the point across.            When Jake struggled, I struggled with him. So many people face his same fictional fears in real life every day and Becky does an amazing job getting that point across. It's not like he came back from the war as a grump because of PTSD. He had real symptoms, problems, heartaches, and Becky portrayed that wonderfully.

On the flip side, when Lyndie was frustrated or upset, so was I. The fact that I am a self proclaimed "fixer" might have something to do with it but still, I'd like to think I'd be like Lyndie in her situation. Strong. Determined. Spunky. Most of all though, she loved fiercely and cared for God and her friends with all her heart. My kind of girl!!

While I have found that some of Becky's novels can be a little edgier then some, I definitely found this one tamer then "Meant to be Mine". Still Jake is 190% swoon worthy and you HAVE to read this book! I didn't find their relationship to be forced or rushed and I thoroughly enjoyed Jake's grumpy banter!

Becky truly is a name to know in the Christian contemporary romance fiction world!

*My overall thoughts*

A Love Like Ours by Becky Wade is an amazing story about a former marine with PTSD and his former best friend from when they were young kids. The pace, cover, story line, and characters were all perfection and this is a new favorite!!
